Earth Day

It is World Earth day today! It is when millions of people from around the world come together in many different ways whether it is to showcase and educate ways in which people can lower their carbon foot print or to campaign for the protection of the environment. Fortunately there are very simple things you can do to help protect the environment, especially with the threat of climate change and how it affects all of us.

  • Recycling –  recycle your books, newspaper, food waste etc. Luckily for me my local council provides us with bins for paper, garden waste, food waste/compost and general household items. I have been doing this for years so this is normal for me, doing anything else seems strange.
  • Dispose of your unwanted batteries properly, instead of putting them in your household bins, this can be arrange with your local council. They provide you with special bags to put them in so that they can be dispose of properly. Some supermarkets also have places where you can dispose of them whilst going about your daily shopping.
  • Take ‘your bags for life’ to the supermarket when you are going shopping. I do understand if you forget yours, well if you are anything like me, it is very frustrating especially when you know you have many stash away at home.
  • Cut down on your meat consumption – Vital ecosystems around the world are being destroyed at an alarming rate to make room to graze cattle and grow the food they eat.
  • Cut down on some of the harmful household chemicals, replace some of them with vinegar and bi-carbonate soda instead.
